Escaping Danger and Destruction

"The other two also came to the foot of the Hill; but when they saw that the Hill was steep and high, and that there was two other ways to go; and supposing also that these two ways might meet again with that up which Christian went, on the other side of the Hill; therefore they were resolved to go in those ways. Now the name of one of those ways was Danger, and the name of the other Destruction. So the one took the way which is called Danger, which led him into a great Wood; and the other took directly up the way to Destruction, which led him into a wide field, full of dark Mountains, where he stumbled and fell, and rose no more.

Shall they who wrong begin yet rightly end?
Shall they at all have Safety for their friend?
No, no; in headstrong manner they set out,
And headlong will they fall at last no doubt. "
John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress

Christian, met these two men on his way to the City. He was on the Way and saw these two climb over the wall. They thought they were safe, since they were where he was. There was a major difference. Christian had been called to the Way. He had been shown how to get to the gate. He had been allowed entrance to the gate. The other two, had gained entrance by their own works. Christian warned them, but they were deaf.

There are those who think they are safe from danger and destruction. Maybe they feel they are safe, because they have been kind and compassionate. Maybe, they think they are safe, because they have attended church and been baptized. That is how the enemy works. He wants us to seek to be good and not to be holy. Only by grace and mercy can we be holy. Only by sharing in Christ's death and resurrection can we conquer death. Cry out for that mercy to be saved!
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20
